Brooks is a graduate of St. Cecilia HS in Hastings, NE. He was a 2-sport athlete playing basketball for his HS and he played Legion baseball in HS since his HS did not have a baseball team. Played for 4 years at the University of Kansas (catcher). After KU, he finished his college career at Oakland University.

Brooks has been developing HS and College catchers since graduating. He has also been an area summer HS coach for the last 3 seasons.
